Regular Alpha meetings are held at various sites; the Alakea Conference Center, Oahu Country Club, classrooms, homes of members, indoors and outdoors. This particular meeting took members to the UH Urban Garden. Following a business meeting in the gazebo on the grounds, we learned how to sustain gardens to grow vegetables for good health. A strong body for a strong mind. A hands-on potting session yielded plants that members took home and cared for until they flourished to maturity.
Alpha sister Margaret C. Young shared her authorship of books which were used by many elementary schools. Shown here are “Hawaii’s People from China” and “And They Also Came.” Margaret, sister of Beta Beta State’s May Chun, served in many leadership roles as an officer and committee chairman for Alpha Chapter.
The expertise of Alpha Sisters is used to expand our knowledge base and involvement in many endeavors.

The Installation of Officers signals the dedication these key women teachers of Delta Kappa Gamma have in carrying out the duties of their offices.
They are leaders not only in Alpha Chapter and Delta Kappa Gamma, but also in their schools and in the wider community.
Members, like Megan Cummings, help to keep others current on technology with workshops and hands-on experiences. Plus, we are being mindful of where Delta Kappa Gamma originated with its Founders as shared by Daye Tominaga and Jan Jim.

Expansion of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International bridged a tie to the country of Japan. During the initial stages of orientation, Alpha Chapter hosted the delegation of educators from Kochi, JAPAN, conducting an extensive, interactive discussion with member Jo Matsu as the key translator of the Japanese/English language. Guests and Alpha members dined at the Prince Court Buffet.
Alpha Chapter is currently seeking innovative ways to involve our wide range of membership igniting our younger members and making our meetings available through technology to those who are house-bound.
New experiences, new moments of excellence relate now to the EEC and SAP while we continue to support the Seven Purposes of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

World Fellowship
Alpha Chapter promotes World Fellowhip by sending e-mails and cards to selected World Fellowship Fund recipients, correspondence to Japan sisters in Kochi, circulating books about different cultures around the world and presentations about World Fellowship. Alpha chapter contributes to the World Fellowship Fund and/or Schools for Africa Project. We acquire these contributions through country store fundraisers, rummage sales, silent auctions, donations made in memory of a deceased member or chapter budget.
